PIE3 FRC "Home" Teams and Affiliated FRC Teams
|
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Teams build robots, make life-long friends, challenge themselves in many ways and gain life skills that help prepare them to be the problem-solvers and innovative thinkers so necessary for a future of peace, health and well-being for all. That is a tall order! The FIRST Website describes FRC this way:
Under strict rules, limited time and resources, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Each season ends with an exciting FIRST Championship. FRC Teams in PIE3 are open to any high school student in public or private school or homeschooled. The team size is flexible, and teams accept new members throughout the year. |
The Robo-Lions, FRC Team 2199 |
FRC Team 2199 sparked the formation of the PIE3 non-profit, and continues to welcome new members and grow each year. This team has been at the heart of "Robotics for All" in Carroll County, and the members were instrumental in the construction of the Carroll County Center for Robotics and Engineering in Finksburg. Cyber Squirrels, FRC Team 6863
|
The "Squirrel Family" of teams is affiliated with PIE3 through an agreement by which PIE3 assists with the management of team finances and especially grants, and the teams help support the non-profit through their fundraising and outreach events. The multiple teams work together at their location at a home in Howard County. Open to all, they encourage students athletes to participate in this 'sport for the mind'.
